Emory University Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital have been named in Becker’s Healthcare 2019 list of “100 great hospitals in America”. Just three hospitals in Georgia made the list of 100, with two of them being Emory hospitals.

The hospitals included on the list have been recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes and staff and physician satisfaction. According to Becker’s, the selected health care organizations are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties. The list also includes industry innovators that have sparked trends in healthcare technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction.

Becker's Healthcare selected the 100 hospitals for inclusion based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report's 2018-19 rankings, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings, Leapfrog grades and more. Becker's also sought nominations for this list.

“We are proud to have two of our hospitals in the ranks with so many other well-respected health care organizations around the nation,” says Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, president, CEO and chairman of the board of Emory Healthcare. “We thank all of the many care teams across our system, whose excellence in patient care contribute to us achieving these recognitions.”

Founded in 1904, Emory University Hospital is a part of Emory Healthcare, the most comprehensive academic health system in Georgia. The hospital contains 751 licensed beds, including 120 ICU beds. Specialty services include transplantation, cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, neurology, neurosurgery and orthopaedics. Emory University Hospital is a Magnet-recognized hospital for nursing excellence, designated by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Emory University Hospital the No. 1 hospital, both in metro Atlanta and Georgia, for the past seven years.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta's longest-serving hospital. Today, the 410-bed facility is a part of Emory Healthcare. The hospital is noted for its expertise in cardiac, cancer, neurologic, vascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory and orthopaedic care. In April 2019, the hospital received its sixth consecutive Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, making it the first community hospital and one of only three hospitals in the world to achieve six consecutive Magnet designations. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital the No. 2 hospital in both Georgia and metro Atlanta for the past three years.
