By making a gift to Emory this #GivingTuesday, you turn dollars into change. Help a scientist make a breakthrough in the battle against a deadly disease. Lead a scholar to a discovery that changes the course of humanity. Provide an unparalleled education to a student with the potential to become that scientist or scholar.
Created by New York City's 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, #GivingTuesday is a global movement that has made charitable giving a holiday tradition.
#GivingTuesday, now in its sixth year, provides opportunities to link individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. Emory supporters — faculty, staff, alumni and friends — are invited to give to an area at Emory close to their hearts.
"Your support extends Emory’s reach in the community and increases its positive influence around the world," says Folashadé Alao 05G 09G, national chair of the Emory Annual Giving Board. "#GivingTuesday provides a chance to show the world what Emory means to us by rallying together in support of meaningful academic programs, groundbreaking research, advanced patient care and consequential community service."
Since Emory began celebrating #GivingTuesday in 2013, generous donors have contributed more than $172,000 to Emory on this day.
Around the world, in 2016, #GivingTuesday brought together more than 40,000 partners in 98 countries and registered more than 2.3 billion social media engagements. Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has grown by 317 percent, according to a report by Blackbaud.
"Generous gifts from Emory donors make an immediate and lasting difference for students, scholars, researchers, scientists, doctors, patients and many others," Alao says.
Faculty and staff can be part of this transformative movement by giving to Emory through MyEmory, the annual employee giving program. Employees have the convenient option of contributing through payroll deduction (log on to PeopleSoft and click "Payroll under Self Service") or you can make a one-time gift online.
After you give, be sure to spread the word on social media with #GivingTuesday and #Emory.
