The Society for Tennis Medicine and Science (STMS) is hosting its 25th World Congress of Tennis Medicine Dec. 2–4, in Amelia Island, Fla. Under the leadership of current president Neeru Jayanthi, MD,who is also director of tennis medicine at Emory Sports Medicine in Atlanta, the international congress will bring together world leaders in tennis medicine, science and performance.
"We are expecting more than 50 international speakers in the field of tennis-specific sports medicine, which includes sports medicine physicians, orthopaedic sports surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches and sport scientists," explains Jayanthi. "Emory Sports Medicine is proud to serve as one of the supporters of this World Congress with members of our Tennis Medicine Program as active participants in the event."
The Emory tennis medicine, with collaboration from the Association of Tennis Professionals, the Women’s Tennis Association, the United States Tennis Association, and the International Tennis Federation, will participate in tennis-specific, on-court sport science sessions, main medical sessions, sports science and workshop sessions.
"Tennis medicine involves a unique medical expertise in the care of the comprehensive needs of the tennis player," says Jayanthi. "Emory’s tennis medicine program continues to incorporate these medical practices and will contribute in many areas at the STMS World Congress, including tennis-specific evaluations, training methods, tennis-specific rehabilitation and medical issues.
