The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) will induct Assistant Clinical Professor Lisa Muirhead, DNP, APRN-BC and Assistant Professor Rasheeta Chandler, PhD, FNP-BC, into its 2016 Fellowship class at the organization's Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas in June.

Induction into the AANP Fellowship is considered one of the highest honors for nurse practitioners. Fellows are elected through a highly selective process that recognizes nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education and policy.

“I am extremely proud and honored to work with such an outstanding group of nurses,” says Dean Linda McCauley, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Dr. Muirhead and Dr. Chandler are most deserving of this tremendous recognition. Emory’s School of Nursing now has nine faculty members who are fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.”

Muirhead, a nationally recognized expert and consultant to numerous professional advisory boards, joined the School of Nursing in 2012. She is best known for leading Emory’s Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership program, which aims to prepare undergraduate students for veteran-centered care with a $4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

Chandler, a pioneer in sexual health interventions, joined Emory in 2015. Her work addresses the sexual health interventions specifically targeted toward young African-American women. This group accounts for the largest share of new HIV infections at a rate 20 times higher than white women. Chandler was also recently named one of the Top 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health Care by the National Minority Quality Forum.
