Weeg selected for College Baseball Preseason All-America team

Emory junior Jackson Weeg was one of four starting pitchers named to the HERO Sports Preseason 2016 D3 College Baseball All-America team. Emory's baseball season begins this weekend.

Junior lefthander Jackson Weeg of the Emory University baseball team was named to the HERO Sports Preseason 2016 D3 College Baseball All-America team as announced by the organization last week. It is Weeg’s second honor prior to the 2016 season after he was named a D3Baseball.com Preseason First Team All-American last month.

"Weeg was a true winner in 2015. … He enters the season as possibly the best left-handed starter in D3," HERO Sports said in an article announcing the All-America team.

Weeg was one of four starting pitchers to be selected to the team along with Zach Kirby of Framingham State, Greg Schneider of Frostburg State and Daniel Morris of Rhodes College.

A native of Woodstock, Georgia, Weeg established himself as one of the top starters in Division III last season, leading the nation with 12 victories and striking out 98 batters in 100.2 innings pitched en route to being named as a D3Baseball.com Third Team All-American.

He helped Emory make a return trip to the College World Series and was named the NCAA South Regional Tournament MVP after making two starts, striking out 19 batters, and throwing 8 and 2/3rds innings against Birmingham Southern in the game clinching victory on just two days’ rest. Emory finished the year with a 31-15 overall record.

Weeg and the Eagles kick off the 2016 season this weekend with the Central Texas Tournament. Emory will face George Fox University and Pacific University (Oregon) on Friday, Feb. 12, and Whitworth University and Southwestern University on Saturday, Feb. 13.
