Faculty and staff at Emory University and Emory Healthcare are invited to start off the new year with healthy living in mind by attending the Healthy New YOU Expo on Thursday, Jan. 28, at four Emory locations:
- Emory campus, Cox Hall Ballroom, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
- Emory University Midtown Hospital, Glenn Auditorium, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
- Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital atrium, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Emory John's Creek Hospital, ground floor new classrooms, a.m.–2 p.m.
This annual expo offers tips to make healthier food choices, start a physical activity program and manage the day-to-day stress in your life. Cooking demonstrations will let attendees sample healthy foods and there will be the opportunity to meet wellness vendors in the surrounding community.
A live feed will be available to view for those who cannot attend all of the event.
"The feed will show the welcome, exhibitor interviews, exercise demo, cooking demo, stress management speaker and drum circle, which teaches stress management by making music," says Dawn McMillian, wellness specialist at the Faculty Staff Assistance Program.
Exhibitor interviews will be conducted by Adam Malm, School of Nursing Wellness Champion. Malm will visit each exhibitor table, giving the exhibitors an opportunity to introduce themselves and their products and services, asking questions and demonstrating some of their offerings.
Bon Appetit Executive Chef Thomas Harvey and Jessica Perry will demonstrate how to make a healthy snack to enjoy during the Super Bowl or at any gathering. Tastings will be offered.
In addition to a talk on stress management using music, there will be talks on office ergonomics, explaining causes and solutions to pain in workstations, and an exercise demo by the 1599 Line Dancers.
Participants will be able to get chair massages (11 a.m. to 2 p.m., first come, first served); get a quick health screening; and have chances to win raffle prizes awarded hourly.
The expo is sponsored by the Wellness Team/Healthy Emory.
