Angela Amar, PhD, RN, associate professor and assistant dean for BSN education in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, recently released her latest book titled, "A Practical Guide to Forensic Nursing: Incorporating Forensic Principles into Nursing Practice."

The book, co-authored with L. Kathleen Sekula, PhD, professor at Duquesne University School of Nursing, is an evidence-based guide to understanding and applying forensic nursing science. It introduces practical and theoretical perspectives on violence and provides valuable resources, including jury assessment and violence prevention strategies. In addition, the authors provide a comprehensive overview of relevant legal, ethical, societal and policy issues.

"This book explores a very critical area of nursing," explains Amar. "Victims of violence are unfortunately ever-present in healthcare today. Forensic nursing and theoretical issues of violence are areas that every nurse should be comfortable and familiar with. Since nurses are usually the first to interact with victims of violence and faced with very difficult and uncomfortable situations, the strategies outlined in this book provide a very practical and useful foundation that enhance an understanding of this area."

"A Practical Guide to Forensic Nursing: Incorporating Forensic Principles Into Nursing Practice," can be accessed at Nursing Knowledge (ISBN – 13: 9781940446349).
