Jennifer Foster, PhD, MPH, CNM and associate clinical professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University was selected to receive a Fulbright award to continue international research and development of community involvement in the area of midwifery practice in Chile.
The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board is a presidentially appointed, 12-member board that selects students, scholars, and teachers from the United States and abroad who participate in Fulbright exchanges. The board is responsible for establishing worldwide policies for the Fulbright Program and recipients.
"Selection for a Fulbright award is a humbling achievement," says Foster. "My selection demonstrates the board’s awareness and recognition of the growing and vitally significant field of midwifery’s role in the improvement of maternal-newborn health globally. I look forward to the growth and diverse international perspectives that I will gain through this exchange."
Foster is a public health nurse-midwife. She is also a fellow in the Lillian Carter Center for Global Health & Social Responsibility. Her research includes community-based participatory research with nurses and community researchers in several sites, in the Dominican Republic, as well as the Center for Black Women’s Wellness in Atlanta.
