A new two-minute video that illustrates the achievements of Emory's scholar athletes and the outstanding nature of the university's varsity athletics program is now posted on Emory's main website.
"Emory is one of a handful of U.S. universities top ranked in both athletics and academics," says Jan Gleason, assistant vice president of university marketing. "We're second only to Stanford in the number of NCAA postgraduate scholarships that our students have earned in the past decade, and we also regularly finish in the top 10 in the Directors' Cup of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics for best all-around athletics program during that period.”
Over the school’s history, Emory Eagles have won 17 NCAA Division III national championships. Emory student athletes have been awarded 92 NCAA postgraduate scholarships and 154 have been named Academic All-Americans; more than 800 have been named All-American athletes since 1983. Each year, about 400 students compete on Emory teams.
“The combination of excellent academic and athletic programs is a point of distinction for Emory's undergraduate experience,” Gleason says.
Emory competes in 18 varsity sports. Women’s teams include basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Men’s teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field.
The new video will be played during various webcasts of Emory's home athletic events and will be prominently displayed on the University Athletics website, which drew over two million page views during the 2013-14 academic year. It is also available on Emory's YouTube channel.
The video was created by University Marketing and Emory Photo Video. It was written and produced by Shannan Palma, senior online producer, and edited by Bryan Meltz, associate director for multimedia initiatives.
