The grand re-opening of Emory Surplus Property on Tuesday, June 17, features a sale on computers and a range of office furniture, plus a 25 percent-off opportunity.
Emory Surplus Property is located in Building B of Emory's Briarcliff property, 1256 Briarcliff Rd., with parking in the J Lot. Refreshments will be served at Tuesday's event.
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, during regular days of operation.
"We're asking people to take a picture of the flyer [on the surplus property website] we've made about the sale and bring it in to get 25 percent off their order on Tuesday," says Milton Thomas, supervisor of staging and surplus property.
"What's prompting the grand re-opening label," says Thomas, "is the physical relocation of surplus property from Building A to Building B. We're located right across the breezeway from where we were."
The surplus property rooms were shut down during May due to the move, he adds.
This event is only open to Emory faculty, staff and students. All items are available while supplies last.
"The main purpose of selling surplus property is diversion," Thomas says, "keeping property out of the landfill. It's also to benefit the Emory community."
Thomas and James Harper manage the surplus sales around their primary jobs. Harper, as program administrative assistant for Auxiliary Services, which includes recycling and surplus, assists Thomas. Thomas works in the staging and special events area of Facilities Management.
