Emory exhibit celebrates life of Hank Aaron

Three Emory University baseball players are putting together an exhibit on the life of baseball legend Hank Aaron. The exhibit will feature photos of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's home run record, articles, scouting reports of Aaron and other hall of fame players, and some of the death threat letters Aaron received as he was approaching the record.

The idea for the exhibit started when junior Warren Kember went to MARBL, Emory's manuscripts archive, to look at scouting reports of hall of fame players in the African American Sports Collection. In the reports, Kember saw many of the same critiques he's received from scouts and recruiters: slow hands, not fast, needs to work on baserunning. Pellom McDaniels, faculty curator for the collection, asked Kember if he'd like to voluntarily help McDaniels to set up an exhibit on Hank Aaron and the 40th anniversary of "The Hammer" breaking Babe Ruth's home run record. Kember agreed, as did fellow baseball players Kyle Arbuckle and Brett Lake, both juniors.

The exhibit opens April 24th in the Robert W. Woodruff Library on Emory's campus.
