Work-Life program honored for third year

For the third consecutive year, WorldatWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress (AWLP) has awarded Emory University with the Work-Life Seal of Distinction.

The seal is a unique mark of excellence designed to identify organizational success in work-life effectiveness, according to Kathie Lingle, WLCP, AWLP executive director.

Emory is one of 66 organizations to be recognized on March 20 at the AWLP Work-Life Forum in Baltimore.

"We are truly honored to receive this designation," says John Kosky, director of work-life and compensation. "We continue to broaden our programs and resources to support our faculty and staff in the area of work-life balance.  Receiving this designation is an affirmation at the national level of the quality of our programming and we are very proud of that."

The AWLP Seal of Distinction assesses the seven categories of work-life effectiveness that comprise a best-in-class work-life portfolio in today's workplace:

  • Caring for dependents
  • Health and wellness
  • Workplace flexibility
  • Financial support for economic security
  • Paid and unpaid time off
  • Community involvement
  • Transforming organizational culture

The winners represent a variety of industries — including education, finance, government, health, law, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals — and the 2014 list includes 24 new companies and shows 21 companies returning to the list from previous years.

"Emory has worked diligently over the past five years to strengthen the work-life culture and we are thrilled to be recognized alongside top corporations," says Kosky.

Through the Emory WorkLife Resource Center, members of the Emory community can an abundance of resources and programs in the areas of dependent care, workplace flexibility, financial planning and support, and community involvement. The Center also helps design and create programs that address the ever-changing needs of Emory’s working families.
