'Copyright for Authors' event cancelled; 'Trolls' still on

Emory Report | Feb. 11, 2014

"Copyright for Authors," a presentation scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11 by the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence, has been postponed.

The CFDE presentation, part of the Scholarly Writing And Publishing (SWAP) project will be rescheduled; for updates, check the CFDE website.

However, at this time the CFDE presentation "Trolls: When Response to Public Scholarship is Uncivil," will still be held as scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 11:45 a.m. in the Jones Room of the Woodruff Library.

The presentation will feature a panel of scholars who will discuss their experiences with "trolls" — individuals who respond with negative and/or inappropriate feedback to public scholarship, strategies for dealing with them and the motivation that keeps them engaged in their work despite negative comments.

Panelists will include:

  • Donna Troka, associate director for faculty development and excellence and adjunct assistant professor, Graduate Institute of the Liberal Arts
  • Robert Stephenson, associate professor, Hubert Department of Global Health, Rollins School of Public Health
  • Tressie McMillan Cottom, graduate student, Department of Sociology, Laney Graduate School
