MLK 'Day On' offers variety for volunteers

Emory's Day On, a day of service honoring Martin Luther King Jr., will be Monday, Jan. 20, when the federal King holiday is celebrated this year.

The service day, part of Emory's annual King Week, offers volunteers the opportunity for community work at various nonprofit agencies in Atlanta.

This year's volunteer options encompass:

• gardening help at historic sites, schools, parks and nature areas

• working on Habitat for Humanity projects for senior citizens

• showing students how to use school resources

• helping at animal shelters

• sorting and categorizing medical supplies

• organizing donations at thrift shops

• helping at a furniture bank.

To participate in a service project, volunteers should register by Jan. 17.
