New ombudsperson role provides support to students

Through the Campus Life Compact for Building an Inclusive Community at Emory created last academic year, students, faculty members and administrators identified the need for a student ombudsperson to work specifically with undergraduate and graduate students facing various difficulties.
Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life Ajay Nair appointed Sherry Ebrahimi to this role in a part-time capacity. Ebrahimi, who will continue her role as director of university conferences, will work closely with students, faculty members and administrators to assist students in navigating university resources and helping students advocate for themselves.
Ebrahimi will provide students an impartial, consistent and centralized point of contact as a source of information and referral. She will assist students in accomplishing the expeditious resolution of their problems and concerns while maintaining their privacy.
A priority for the position will include creating a peer advisory board to advise the ombudsperson in shaping the role and exploring a potential peer-to-peer network.
Ebrahimi, a 1997 graduate of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, has served the University in variety of capacities in the Division of Campus Life including serving as an area director in residence life, a conduct officer, and chairperson of several major committees.
