UPDATED: Sept. 24
Open Streets DeKalb on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 3-6 p.m. will transform Emory Village into a vibrant, car-free space, inspired by the Streets Alive movement that temporarily clears Atlanta streets of cars for human-powered activities.
The roads will be closed from the two roundabouts on North Decatur Road between Lullwater Road and Oxford Road at the entrance to campus, and from South Oxford Road to Clifton Road. (Both roundabouts will remain open to traffic.)
Open Streets DeKalb is sponsored by the Alliance to Improve Emory Village with support from DeKalb County and Village businesses.
"Walk, bike, skate or dance over to Emory Village to sample special offers and participate in street activities," says Emory's David Payne, a planning committee member. "It's a great opportunity to reclaim the streets and connect with friends to explore what's new in Emory Village."
Emory Village businesses are expected to run specials for the event. The King of Pops and food trucks will join Emory Village eateries to offer tasty treats.
All activities are powered by people, and will range from face painting to hula hooping to an oversize chess board. Entertainment will include Emory student a cappella groups and choirs from local congregations.
Walk to the event, or park for free at Emory's Oxford Road or Fishburne visitor parking decks.
