Emory celebrates Sustainability Day, Recycle Day and Recycle Week with events featuring food, golf cart rides, blue jeans trading and a lot of shredding, recycling and composting.
Kicking of this series of events is Sustainability Day, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. when Emory Recycles and Emory Dining will offer vegetarian chili and cornbread made with local and/or sustainable ingredients served on compostable dishes.
There will be a demonstration on how and what to compost at Emory. Emory Recycles and Emory Catering will promote the new Sustainable Catering Guide that supports Zero Waste Events at the University.
Participants can also trade in old blue jeans with Little Bird Blue, the blue jean recycler, who will be on-site to offer "gently used designer blue jeans" for students, faculty and staff.

Food, beverages and recycling mark the campus celebration for America Recycles Day on Nov. 15 at Asbury Circle. Participants can hop on one of Emory Recycles' golf carts for a tour of the department's program; tours are offered at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Containers will be available to recycle Styrofoam. Bring confidential documents, hard drives, floppy disks, CDs and DVDs to be securely shredded.
America Recycles Week from Nov. 11-17 has events designed to spread recycling throughout the campus.
A recycling competition awards a prize to the building with the greatest increase of recyclables collected for the month of November. November 2011 totals will be compared to November 2012 and the building with the greatest increase in recyclables collected will receive $3,000 for new recycling equipment.

Electronic waste recycling boxes for collection of personal e-waste located in the lobby of Briarcliff Building A from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the week.
Adding compost collections to each floor and in the bathrooms of the Grace Crum Rollins School of Public Health, which has committed to become Emory’s Next Zero Waste Building.
A partnership between Emory Athletics and Emory Recycles to provide better recycling containers for all athletic spaces. The Emory Eagle logo will be on new equipment coming in November.
Parking Decks Waste Audit by students, faculty and staff sorting and auditing waste from parking decks. Material will be collected for a week and sorted at the Emory Recycling Center.
