Staff Fest, Emory's annual appreciation-information-relaxation event, is Friday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Quad.

Annually set for the Friday after Commencement, the recognition event for employees features refreshments, games, fitness fun and information about services and benefits at Emory.

"Staff Fest is a chance for us to come together and celebrate our staff employees and the past year's achievements with a bit of fun and camaraderie," says Associate Vice President for Human Resources Del King. "The day's activities offer something for everyone, from sports events and dancing to playing games on the Quad."

The events start moving at 10 a.m. with the two-mile Fun Run, then the one-mile Fun Walk at 10:30 a.m. at the Clifton Road entrance to Lullwater Preserve.

Refereed games for the volleyball tournament start at 11 a.m., running until 2 p.m. Due to the high interest in the volleyball competition, 20 teams can be accommodated on the two courts. There is a limit of 10 players per team with no more than six on the court at a time.

Beginning at 1 p.m., take a turn around the Quad to visit the many tables set up with information about resources and programs for employees, known as Information Central.

While visiting the different campus organizations, collecting information and taking opportunities to play games for prizes at various tables, employees can enjoy ice cream, cool drinks, smoothies, popcorn and other treats.

In the event of rain, only refreshments will be served at the Lower Level Terrace of the Dobbs University Center.

For a community service component of the day, the Employee Council and Volunteer Emory are sponsoring a food drive supporting the Atlanta Community Food Bank and a back to school drive for the Samuel L. Jones Boys & Girls Club. Employees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and school supplies to the Employee Council table during Staff Fest.

"Staff Fest has truly become a time-honored tradition here at Emory and offers us all the unique opportunity to meet and connect with our fellow employees while having some outdoor fun," says King.

Staff Fest T-shirts are available for purchase this month.
