Emory welcomes 175 new faculty for the new academic year

Emory welcomed new full-time faculty members to the university community at the New Faculty Orientation on Aug. 13. For the 2026-27 academic year, 175 new hires join approximately 4,300 full-time faculty members and represent eight of Emory’s nine schools.

Hosted by the Office of Faculty Affairs, the annual event offers new faculty the opportunity to meet colleagues and learn more about the services that will support their research and teaching.

Badia Ahad, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, gave opening remarks to the attendees in Convocation Hall.

“Faculty are at the heart of Emory’s mission to create, preserve, teach and apply knowledge in the service of humanity," said Ahad. "I look forward to learning about your bold ideas, groundbreaking scholarship, creative work and the thoughtful connections you will build with students and colleagues. More than anything, I hope you will find at Emory a place where you can do some of the most meaningful work of your life.”

The day’s agenda included presentations on campus life and the student experience; entrepreneurship and innovation; Emory College of Arts and Sciences Pathways Center; AI in teaching and research; and the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence.

“Emory faculty are world-class researchers and educators, and your varied backgrounds and expertise will strengthen our intellectual community,” said Giacomo Negro, vice provost for faculty affairs and Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Management and Organization. “As you acclimate to your new academic home, know that our office is here to offer guidance, celebrate your achievements and provide support systems that allow you to do your best work.”
