Emory University has restored access to Canvas, the online learning management system.
Like many schools and colleges across the country, Emory temporarily restricted access to the site after the company Instructure experienced a cyberattack.
The company says the platform is now stable. Instructure developed FAQs to share information about the security breach and its impact.
Emory's Office of Information Technology will continue to review additional information from Instructure as it becomes available and communicate updates to our community.

While Instructure brought Canvas back online for customers, Emory University is restricting access so we can assess the security and stability of the platform.
Due to the ongoing problems with Canvas, the Office of the Provost extended by seven days the grade submission deadlines for each of Emory’s schools. This extension will not impact the ability of students to participate in Commencement activities.
There are questions regarding what data may have been accessed during the cyberattack. Instructure developed FAQs and shared that the compromised information includes names, email addresses, student identification numbers and messages among Canvas users. At this time the company reports that there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, financial information or government identification data was breached. Emory can’t independently verify Instructure’s findings.
The Office of Information Technology is working to resolve the situation. Emory will provide updates as we learn more.
