Lynn Marie Trotti, MD, MSc, has been appointed director of the Emory Sleep Center, effective Sept. 1. A nationally recognized clinician, researcher and leader in sleep medicine, Trotti succeeds Nancy Collop, MD, who is retiring Sept. 8 after 15 years of service and leadership.

“Sleep medicine continues to evolve rapidly, and academic medical centers like Emory play a vital role in leading that progress,” says Sandra L. Wong, MD, MS, dean of the Emory University School of Medicine and chief academic officer for Emory Healthcare. “Dr. Trotti brings the experience and vision needed to guide the Emory Sleep Center into its next phase, building on the remarkable foundation established by Dr. Collop.”

Trotti currently serves as associate professor of neurology at Emory University School of Medicine. She is associate fellowship director of the Emory Sleep Medicine Fellowship and directs the sleep medicine rotation for non-sleep trainees. She also serves as president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation and is a member of the AASM board of directors.

A member of the Emory community for more than 20 years, Trotti completed her internship, neurology residency, chief residency and sleep medicine fellowship at Emory. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rice University, a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and a master’s degree from Emory.

Her research, supported by the National Institutes of Health, focuses on hypersomnia and narcolepsy. She has played a central role in Emory’s groundbreaking work on idiopathic hypersomnia and leads or collaborates on a broad range of projects related to sleep and neurologic disease. Her studies include investigations into Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome and novel treatments for central nervous system hypersomnia.

Collop joined Emory in 2010 and has directed the Sleep Center since its formation as a centralized program. She is a professor of medicine and neurology in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Under her leadership, the center expanded to new locations at Emory Johns Creek Hospital in 2021 and Emory Decatur Hospital in 2024. She also led the development of specialty services for patients with complex sleep disorders, including those with neuromuscular conditions and treatment-resistant hypersomnia.

Collop previously held faculty and clinical leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Mississippi and the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a past president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine for ten years, concluding her tenure in January 2025.
