Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is ranked No. 8 among the nation’s best nursing schools and No. 1 overall in Georgia, according to the Nursing Schools Almanac. As a longstanding leader in nursing education and research, the School of Nursing has maintained its prestigious rankings since establishment. The school is also ranked No. 5 among the private nursing schools across the country.

The school’s specialty areas ranked:

  • 8 nursing school in the United States
  • 5 among private nursing schools
  • 2 overall in the Southeast region
  • 1 overall in Georgia

“Our nursing school remains in the top of the nation because of our innovative faculty, staff, students, clinical partners and alumni,” says Linda McCauley, PhD, RN, dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. “This increasingly competitive ranking continues to be a reflection of the outstanding achievements, research and frontline work in  our community. Knowing that we have so much incredible, world-changing education and research going on at the School of Nursing is a great motivator for us to keep reaching higher.”

The announcement marks another point of pride in what has already been a momentous year for the School of Nursing. In 2020, the school is ranked No. 5 in National Institutes of Health funding among U.S. nursing schools and received $9.6 million in research from NIH in fiscal year 2019. Recent graduates also demonstrated excellence in clinical preparation by attaining exceptionally high pass rates on board certification exams. The School of Nursing’s overall NCLE pass rate was 96.3 percent and the overall APRN pass rate was 98 percent in 2019.

The Nursing Schools Alamac rankings, conducted annually, are weighted by academic prestige, program breadth and depth, and student success on nursing licensure examinations. This year’s survey included data from over 3,000 nursing schools and campuses nationwide and only the top 3 percent make the list of the best 100 nursing schools in the nation.
