Sandra Dunbar appointed to PCNA board of directors

Sandra Dunbar, PhD, RN, associate dean of academic advancement at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing was recently appointed to the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) Board of Directors. 

PCNA is a leading nursing organization dedicated to preventing cardiovascular disease through assessing risk, facilitating lifestyle changes, and guiding individuals to achieve treatment goals. The organization exhibits strength in supporting leadership, advocacy, lifelong learning and empowerment of the nursing community,

Dunbar, who is also the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Cardiovascular Nursing at Emory, has focused her program of research on improving outcomes for complex cardiovascular patients and their families. Her leadership spans three other professional nursing organizations in roles that include chair of the Council of Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing of the American Heart Association (AHA), chair of the Nursing Council of the Heart Failure Society of America, and president of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.  

"I am honored and excited about the PCNA Board appointment," said Dunbar. "PCNA’s compelling mission of cardiovascular disease prevention and forward thinking by the past board  has led to many innovative approaches and partnerships that benefit their members, and most of all, people with cardiovascular risk. I look forward to being a part of this dynamic group."

Dunbar has published widely in nursing and interdisciplinary journals and has presented her work at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
