Traffic advisory
One northbound lane of Clifton Road in front of the Emory Point Phase II site (formerly the Emory Inn) will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 31 and Friday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day to remove trees along Clifton Road. Traffic delays are expected and shuttle route times also may be affected.
The lane closure will take place primarily from the entrance driveway of the Emory Conference Center Hotel and 1599 Building, to the first entrance to Emory Point at Bonefish Grill.
The sidewalk in front of the Emory Point Phase II site also will be closed Oct. 31 and will remain closed for an extended period of time. Pedestrian traffic will be redirected to the crosswalk in front of the 1599 Clifton building to the opposite side of Clifton in front of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pedestrians may return to Emory Point via the two available crosswalks on Clifton Road at the entrances to Emory Point.
The next phase of Emory Point is in full swing—construction has begun on the $70 million project that is expected to bring an additional 40,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 307 luxury apartment homes to the Clifton Corridor area. Completion is expected in the spring of 2015.
Phase II of the mixed-use development sits on the former site of the Emory Inn, which was recently demolished to make way for the new space on the south side of the existing Emory Point property.
New retail and restaurant tenants have yet to be announced, but are expected to open on a staggered schedule beginning in December 2014, said Joe Wilber, senior vice president of investments for leasing company Gables Residential.
Wilber says that the retail and restaurant options in Phase II will be in line with existing options.
Phase I of Emory Point, which opened in fall 2012, received a 2013 Urban Land Institute Atlanta Development of Excellence Award and an EarthCraft Multifamily Certification, which reflects the community’s impact on the local area and its commitment to resource-efficient projects.
Current merchants will remain open for business throughout the entire project, and the free parking deck will not be impacted by the construction, according to an Emory Point press release.
