Schools recognize excellence in teaching with faculty awards

The Emory Williams Award for Distinguished Teaching is the University's most prestigious teaching award, established in 1972 by alumnus Emory Williams to honor faculty for fostering participation, inquiry and creative expression in the classroom; proving a model for teaching and scholarship; and serving as a mentor to students.

Presented with Emory Williams Teaching awards at their school diploma ceremonies were:

• Patrick Allitt, Cahoon Family professor of American History, Emory College

• Roy T. Black, professor in the practice of finance, Goizueta Business School

• William B. Cody, professor of political science, Oxford College

• A. James Elliott, associate dean and co-director of the Professionalism Program, School of Law

• Skip Garibaldi, associate professor of mathematics and computer science, Emory College

• Rex D. Matthews, associate professor in the practice of historical theology, Candler School of Theology

• Kyle W. Petersen, professor of cell biology, School of Medicine

• Louise Pratt, professor of classics, Emory College

• BBA Distinguished Educator Award: Chris Rider, assistant professor of organization and management

• MBA Teaching Excellence Award – Classic Faculty: Brad Killaly, assistant professor in the practice of organization and management

• MBA Teaching Excellence Award – Junior Faculty: Brandon Mikel Smith, adjunct faculty in the practice of management communication

• Evening MBA Distinguished Core Educator Award: Kristy Towry, associate professor of accounting
