Emory Insider

This edition of Emory Update comes at the end of an unprecedented academic year, as our country confronts both the scourge of racism and intolerance against Black lives and the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here at Emory, we stand for justice in all aspects of our mission, and when faced with hatred and prejudice, we must speak out. As the Emory community unites for vigils that condemn anti-Black racism and supports concrete anti-racist actions both at home and in our broader society, we have also reached out to Gov. Brian Kemp offering support and assistance to ensure that Georgia passes a comprehensive hate crimes bill this year.

Like communities around the world, Emory continues to be deeply affected by the pandemic. From research to remote learning, our faculty, students, staff and alumni have risen to the occasion in amazing ways. And although we had to adapt our traditions for marking the end of the year, we still have much to celebrate, including the remarkable achievements of the Class of 2020 and professor Jericho Brown winning the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.

Thank you, as always, for your support of Emory.

In community,

Claire E. Sterk
Emory University President
