Five surprising facts about fathers
Want to do something special for a father on June 16? Try asking him what he finds most rewarding about being a dad. Emory anthropologist James Rilling interviewed 120 new fathers, finding most reported an increase in how enthusiastic, proud and inspired they felt after talking about their experiences as fathers.

Tayari Jones wins Women's Prize for Fiction for 'American Marriage'
Emory professor Tayari Jones has won the prestigious Women's Prize for Fiction for her fourth book, "An American Marriage." The prize honors the year's best novel written in English by a woman of any nationality.

Emory among top 100 worldwide universities granted U.S. patents
Emory University is ranked 47th in the world among universities granted U.S. utility patents in 2018, according to a new report released by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

Emory receives historic $180 million grant funding innovative efforts to prevent child mortality in developing countries
The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance network, a global health network headquartered in the Emory Global Health Institute, has been awarded the university's largest-ever single research grant.

Pneumonia mapped in largest genomic survey of any disease-causing bacterium
Researchers have mapped the most common bacterial cause of pneumonia around the world and revealed how these bacteria evolve in response to vaccination.

Emory's varsity athletics teams won three NCAA Division III national championships in the 2018-19 season, with volleyball, women's swimming and diving, and men's tennis bringing home top honors.
