Face coverings and physical distancing are required for students, faculty and staff on campus, while many continue to learn, teach and work remotely. EMORY FORWARD   COVID-19 update: Because of the rising prevalence of COVID-19 in our region, the university is adjusting the campus gathering status until Feb. 8. Visit the Emory Forward website for details and to learn about the onboarding process and COVID-19 testing for students coming to campus this spring.

NEWS   CREATIVITY Emory students, faculty collaborate with Atlanta artists to inspire change Emory’s Arts and Social Justice Fellows program brings together Emory students and faculty members with Atlanta artists to explore how creative thinking and expression can inspire change. IMPACT MLK Scholars program continues King’s legacy of service, leadership Emory’s Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship has impacted lives for more than 50 years. Read how three recipients continue to carry King’s legacy into their communities. HONOR Annual MLK Jr. Lecture to focus on ‘Legacy and Responsibilities’ The MLK Jr. Lecture features Emory alum Maggie Anderson discussing "Economic Unity: Our Peaceful and Powerful Protest." Anderson, author of "Our Black Year," speaks Thursday, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. Learn more and register to attend the online event. ACCOMPLISHMENT Alumna wins selective fellowship to study, serve in U.S. Foreign Service Mary Bohn, a 2020 Emory graduate, has been named a Thomas Pickering Fellow by the U.S. State Department. She is Emory’s fourth fellow in the highly competitive program, which requires a five-year commitment to the Foreign Service. DISCUSSION Film screening, conversation on life and work of Pellom McDaniels set for Feb. 7 To celebrate Black History Month, Emory Libraries will partner with Atlanta-based BronzeLens Film Festival to host “Athlete. Scholar. Activist: Chapters in the Life of Dr. Pellom McDaniels III” on Feb. 7 with special guests Fahamu Pecou, Valerie Boyd and others. UPDATE Virtual town hall highlights COVID-19 vaccine news COVID-19 vaccine developments were the focus of a virtual town hall held Jan. 21 — part of an ongoing series of Emory community conversations intended to answer questions and share updated information. FEATURED EVENTS   Nix Mann Endowed Lecture: “The Shifting Shape of Classical Art” Caroline Vout of the University of Cambridge and the University of Leiden examines how different periods have reinvented what classical art is through digging, dealing, drawing. The lecture ends by asking whether classical art has a future. Rhoden and Emory history professor Carl Suddler for a timely discussion about sports, politics and African American history. When: Feb. 4, 4:30 p.m. Where: Online Admission: Free; registration required Race Beyond Borders: "Understanding Race as a Global Concept: Power, Access and Policy" This event will launch the multi-institutional Race Beyond Borders initiative and offer a first step in bringing voices together to begin a dialogue and process of inquiry about race: how we can start developing a shared understanding of race as a global concept, how concepts of race are constructed in different parts of the world and more.
