Live vicariously through Swoop on a Homecoming bucket list adventure
Emory celebrates Homecoming Oct. 19-25 with a wide range of activities for both students and alumni. Most events will be held virtually. Highlights include a conversation with Broadway stars from “Hamilton,” tributes to heroes such as U.S. Rep. John Lewis and the annual Student Talent Showcase.

CONNECTIONS
Prospective doctoral students SOAR with special Laney programs
Approximately 60 potential students learned more about their graduate programs of interest through "Learning about Laney," a preview vistation day that went virtual this year. The visit day and LGS-SOAR are two ways Laney Graduate School reaches diverse scholars.

Emory Community Compact: Meet students and staff helping Emory beat COVID-19
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus, the Community Compact outlines individual guidelines, including wearing face coverings and physical distancing. Meet the compact coordinators and proctors who help students remember these responsibilities.

Online seminar series examines Reconstruction and its modern-day impact
Emory’s Rose Library and Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry will host an online panel discussing "Defining the Black Reconstruction Archive" on Oct. 20. The event, moderated by Kimberly Wallace-Sanders, is part of a tribute series honoring Pellom McDaniels III.

Emory PhD graduate receives 2020 MacArthur Fellowship
Tressie McMillan Cottom, a Laney Graduate School alumna, has received a prestigious 2020 MacArthur Fellowship in recognition of her work to shape discourse on issues related to race, gender, education and digital technology.

On Monday, Emory formally recognized Indigenous Peoples’ Day for the first time, honoring the resilience, history, traditions and cultures of Indigenous and Native American peoples — including the Muscogee Creek Nation, the first inhabitants of the land our campus calls home. Read the announcement by President Gregory L. Fenves and Interim Provost Jan Love and watch a panel discussion led by English professor Craig Womack (Creek) on “McGirt v. Oklahoma: Understanding the Implications of the Recent Supreme Court Decision Across Native America.”
