Sterk welcomes students, faculty, staff to new academic year
As the new academic year begins, President Claire E. Sterk reflects on Emory's impact and how "it is our calling both to appreciate what we've inherited and to strengthen, mold and improve our institution for future generations."

 

ARTS
Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet debuts Emory's 2019-2020 arts season
September brings a full calendar of arts events to Emory, from a concert with the Kronos Quartet and Iranian vocalist Mahsa Vahdat to a live reading of Homer's "The Iliad" and performances by feminist rap cabaret artist Boyfriend.

 

EXHIBIT
New exhibit at the Michael C. Carlos Museum explores allegory and faith in 16th and 17th century prints
"Through a Glass, Darkly" at the Carlos Museum is the first major exhibition of allegorical prints produced in the Low Countries during the 16th and 17th centuries. The exhibit is on view until Dec. 1; Emory students get in free.

 

EVENTS
Professors to share failure stories to help students build resilience
At F#$@upNights on Sept. 9, Emory faculty will share stories of some of their own big mistakes to help students learn about resilience and that apparent failures can become positive learning experiences.

ACTIVITIES
10 things to do this month for $10 or less
September is loaded with options for entertainment and learning, with many free or under $10. Choose from concerts, men's and women's soccer, volleyball with the No. 1-ranked Eagles (who already have a 3-0 record this season), workshops and more.

Join Emory leaders on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to celebrate the official opening of the new Emory Student Center. Activities begin at 11:30 a.m. with Wonderful Wednesday, raffles and give-aways, with remarks and the ribbon-cutting from 12:30 until 1 p.m.

Emory College welcomed 1,382 first-year students to campus. Collectively, they speak 54 unique languages and 18 percent of the class are international students. Eleven percent are first-generation college students.
