COMMUNITY Emory students help make magic for Super Bowl halftime show As millions tuned into Sunday night's Super Bowl, a handful of Emory students joined hundreds of other volunteers on the field to help create the much-anticipated halftime show. CAMPUS Celebrate your love for the arts with February events There's lots to love on the Emory arts calendar this month, including a reading by acclaimed novelist and new Emory professor Tayari Jones. SAFETY Severe Weather Week offers opportunity to review preparedness plans This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia, the perfect time for you to review campus emergency plans for what to do in the event of natural disasters. IMPACT Frontiers of the brain: Emory and GPB explore the mind's mysteries Follow along as Emory partners with Georgia Public Broadcasting on "Your Fantastic Mind," a new weekly TV series that features compelling stories on brain-related health and wellness. The show premieres Monday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. on GPB's statewide television network. EVENTS Vanessa Siddle Walker to lecture about black education, civil rights Emory professor Vanessa Siddle Walker visits the Auburn Avenue Research Library Feb. 10 to discuss "The Lost Education of Horace Tate," her book exploring the hidden history of African American educators working to end school segregation. INSIGHT Philosophy professor's new book explores Brian Eno's 'Music for Airports' Philosopher John T. Lysaker examines different ways of listening and how the ambient music created by pop and avant-garde leader Brian Eno provokes audiences "to think about the act of listening itself." HEALTH Former NFL player works through cognitive rehabilitation at Emory As a former NFL player, Nate Lewis suffered from multiple concussions while playing football. With the help of Emory physicians, Lewis is trying a type of cognitive rehab that is helping parts of his brain not damaged by trauma compensate for the damaged parts.
