Dear Colleagues,
I am incredibly honored to be joining the Emory community. Yesterday’s announcement filled me with both excitement and humility—excitement for the opportunity to work with each of you, and humility for the responsibility encompassed by our common mission as physicians, nurses, care team members, researchers, faculty, staff, and students. Emory’s international role as a leading academic medical center and its palpable culture of collaboration and innovation are something we can all be proud of. More importantly, they are elements that benefit the patients we serve.
It is no secret that academic medical centers have been challenged in many ways in recent years. Emory's health sciences and Emory Healthcare have stood out because of their ability to adapt—pivoting research and care protocols to address unprecedented challenges while anticipating future global needs. This impactful work is realized not only in the impressive research funding Emory has earned throughout the pandemic, but also in the many clinical trials and exceptional care that have resulted in some of the highest COVID-19 survival rates in the country.
When I begin my role in January, listening and learning will be a top focus. It will be important to me that I see and experience the WHSC and the environments you work in first-hand while hearing your perspectives on everything that is to come for our team. I am eager to meet team members from all levels of the organization so I can discover what makes Emory the special place it is.
Finally, I want to thank President Fenves, Dr. David Stephens, the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors, and WHSC leadership team. Their vision for the future, compassion for Emory’s faculty and staff, and focus on the welfare of patients and their family members have resulted in a strong and vibrant health sciences community that is well-positioned for the future.
Thank you all for your warm welcome. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
Sincerely,
Ravi
Ravi I. Thadhani, MD, MPH Executive Vice President, Health Affairs (appointee)
