The Emory community will come together Oct. 20-22 for three events welcoming the university’s new president and deans.
The events, which lead into Homecoming, include Presidential Convocations on Emory’s Oxford and Atlanta campuses, as well as a block party reception where the campus community can meet and mingle with the university’s new leaders.
Presidential Convocations
The welcoming events begin Tuesday, Oct. 20, with the first Presidential Convocation, held on Emory’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia.
President Chris Augostini, who officially began his role Sept. 1, will join Oxford College Dean Molly McGehee for a fireside chat at 4:30 p.m. in the Oxford Student Center's Greer Forum.
Following the fireside chat, the Oxford College community is invited to proceed to the Few Monument on the Quadrangle for activities marking the investiture of Augostini as Emory’s 22nd president. The Oxford Chamber Ensemble and the Oxford Chorale will provide music. The Seney Tower bell will chime 22 times, and a faculty member will light a “lamp of learning” that will travel from the Oxford convocation to the Atlanta convocation, symbolizing the Emory community’s deep connections across campuses and generations. A reception will follow. Register to attend.
Festivities move to the Atlanta campus on Wednesday, Oct. 21, for the Emory Presidential Convocation, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.
The Atlanta event will include a procession in academic regalia, bagpipes, musical performances by the Emory Concert Choir and Vega Quartet, the investiture ceremony, and an address by Augostini. A casual luncheon reception will follow on Patterson Green.
All faculty, students and staff are invited to attend; due to limited space, please submit your ticket request.
Block party to meet Emory’s new leaders
On Thursday, Oct. 22, a block party on Emory’s Atlanta campus will offer informal opportunities to meet Augostini and the new deans of Emory College, Oxford College, Goizueta Business School, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Campus Life. (The new dean of Candler School of Theology is unable to attend.)
From 12-1:30 p.m., the Emory community is invited to gather in Asbury Circle for a free lunch of hot dogs, burgers (including veggie burgers), chips, drinks and dessert, with opportunities to visit with each other and the university’s new leaders.
