Maurice Middleton named vice provost for institutional equity and compliance

Maurice Middleton has been named vice provost for Institutional Equity and Compliance (IEC), effective July 1, 2026.  

Middleton, who has served as associate vice provost for IEC since May 2022, will join the Office of the Provost leadership team, reporting directly to Badia Ahad, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University.

“The elevation of this role to vice provost reflects the increasingly strategic and enterprise-wide importance of Institutional Equity and Compliance,” says Ahad. “Because the office serves every school, college and administrative division, its work is essential to fostering a community grounded in fairness, accountability and respect. This structure underscores the university’s commitment to ensuring these responsibilities receive the highest level of institutional leadership and attention as we advance our mission and uphold the values that define Emory.”

As associate vice provost for IEC, Middleton leads initiatives to advance equity and compliance across the university. He oversees the offices that are responsible for Emory’s Equal Opportunity compliance, EEO investigations, ADA compliance, and Title IX compliance and education for faculty and staff, ensuring adherence to federal statutes and regulations. He also develops and implements policies and procedures on equal opportunity, discrimination, harassment and related civil rights matters, as well as managing and resolving concerns from members of the Emory community.
