Emory University launched redesigned versions of the Emory University and Emory News websites, featuring improved navigation and accessibility tools that create a more intuitive and connected experience for users.

Emory University has launched redesigned versions of its main website, emory.edu, and Emory News, news.emory.edu. The sites both went live on June 10 and are designed to work together to provide a more intuitive and connected digital experience for users.

Serving as a digital front door, the Emory University website helps users navigate core topics such as academics, admissions and aid, life at Emory, research and healthcare. The redesigned homepage provides clear pathways to key areas of the university, making it easier for both new and returning visitors to find what they need.

The redesigned Emory News website is closely integrated with the university site, which features stories to highlight university achievements, research discoveries, community impact and news from across Emory.

Led by Emory Communications and Marketing in partnership with the Office of Information Technology (OIT), the redesign reflects input gathered from dozens of stakeholders across the university. The project began in early 2025 and included a series of discovery sessions with representatives from across the community. Input from leadership, faculty, staff, students and communicators informed the overall strategy, content structure and design for the new sites.

The process reflects a broad strategic framework that all teams involved worked diligently to instill in the new websites. The design and editorial direction emphasize a tone that is smart, confident and connected, reflecting Emory’s identity as a purpose-driven institution.

Modernized platform

The new Emory University and Emory News sites are built on a modern Drupal-based platform supported by updated infrastructure designed to improve performance, reliability and long-term flexibility. The transition represents a significant modernization of Emory’s web ecosystem, moving toward a scalable platform that will eventually support all of Emory’s websites.

Drupal offers an intuitive editing experience for content creators while supporting accessibility, security and future growth.  Emory OIT teams will support the underlying infrastructure and operations, while Communications and Marketing will manage the university design system and templates on which the rest of the university’s departments can build their sites.

The platform supports a more consistent approach to content across Emory’s websites, reducing redundancies and clarifying where information is stored across schools, departments and administrative units.

The launch of the new Emory University and Emory News websites is the first step in a broader effort to transition university websites to the Drupal platform over the next three to five years.

Enhanced accessibility

The redesigned sites incorporate enhancements focused on usability, accessibility and consistency across pages. They meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and reflect Emory’s ongoing commitment to ensuring its digital presence is accessible to all users.

These updates include improvements to navigation, page structure, image descriptions and screen-reader compatibility to support a more seamless experience for users with disabilities across devices.

Supporting the Emory community

As additional Emory websites transition to Drupal, faculty and staff who manage web content will have access to training and support resources being created by Communications and Marketing and the Office of Information Technology. Training will soon be offered through online learning modules to help site owners gain skills and become confident managing content in the new platform.

The launch of the redesigned emory.edu and news.emory.edu sites represents an important milestone in the continued evolution of Emory’s digital presence. Visitors are encouraged to explore the new sites and all that they have to offer.

More than a visual refresh, the relaunch establishes a structured framework for how Emory presents itself online. The redesign establishes the Emory University website as an entry point that helps users understand the university and easily navigate its digital ecosystem.
