Jane Gatewood, vice provost for Emory Global Engagement, has begun her term as president of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), a leading professional association for senior international officers and global education leaders.

AIEA strives to advance institutional internationalization and shape global higher education policy. As president, Gatewood will work with the board of directors and executive leadership to promote the association’s strategic priorities, including implementation of its 2025-28 strategic plan, focused on global education policy and leadership.

“Dr. Gatewood's election as president of the Association of International Education Administrators is a testament to her exemplary leadership and her deep commitment to advancing international education on a global scale,” says Emory Provost Badia Ahad. “We are thrilled to have her expertise at Emory as she elevates the experiences of our students, faculty and staff through transformative and innovative approaches to global engagement.”

Gatewood joined Emory University in January 2025, having previously served as vice provost for global engagement at the University of Rochester, where she led institution-wide global strategy and partnerships.

“I am passionate about building upon AIEA’s legacy of fostering innovative international education strategies and supporting the professional development of senior international officers,” Gatewood shared in the AIEA’s announcement of her election.

Gatewood’s contributions to the field include editing NAFSA’s “Guide to International Academic Partnerships,” establishing one of the first international partnership units at a U.S. university during her time at the University of Georgia, and consulting on education and civil society development initiatives in Eastern Europe.

She has been awarded the 2024 Senior International Officer of the Year by the Institute of International Education and named one of PIE’s 50 voices for the Americas in 2025.

Gatewood has held multiple leadership roles in the international education community, including key commitments at NAFSA and on the AIEA Board of Directors.
