To support student flourishing and increase equitable access to global experiences, Atlanta Global Partnerships (AGP) — a program through Emory’s Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives — has launched the Emory Free Passport Initiative. Through this program, AGP is covering the costs of U.S. passport application and renewal fees for a limited number of Emory University students who receive financial aid.

Students interested in getting a passport must apply to be considered. Those who are accepted will be scheduled to have their paperwork processed during Emory Passport Day on campus Thursday, April 20. Complimentary professional passport photos and printing will be available on site that day.

To apply, students receiving financial aid may visit the Emory Free Passport Initiative website to review the application and checklist. The application deadline is March 30.

“Global education is an essential component of the student experience, yet limited access prevents many students from taking advantage of international opportunities,” says Obse Ababiya, associate director for the Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives, Atlanta Global Partnerships. “Obtaining a passport is one of the first steps to gaining international exposure, and we’re excited to offer them free to our students.”

Faculty, staff and students who do not qualify to participate for free also can request an appointment to apply for a passport on Emory Passport Day. If accepted, these participants will be required to pay the associated passport fees. Professional passport photo services also will be available that day at a discounted rate.

Questions can be directed to freepassport@emory.edu. For more information on U.S. passport requirements, visit travel.state.gov/passports.

AGP is hosting Emory Passport Day with support from Georgia State University Passport Services and the Atlanta Passport Agency.
