BraveHeart: Welcome Back Veterans Southeast Initiative, a collaborative effort between Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Atlanta Braves, will be celebrating the U.S. Army's 239thbirthday on Friday, June 13. The Braves will play the Los Angeles Angels at 7:35 p.m. at Turner Field.

BraveHeart, now in its third year, is an outreach and education program that seeks to increase awareness about PTSD, decrease stigma associated with it, and facilitate access to mental health services for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families in Georgia and the Southeast. The program is funded through the McCormick Foundation and MLB’s Welcome Back Veterans Program.

”We are so excited to continue our work with the Braves, Major League Baseball, and the Welcome Back Veterans programs to help those who served,” says Barbara Rothbaum, PhD, director of the Trauma and Anxiety Recovery Program and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Emory University School of Medicine.

Before the game, BraveHeart representatives will be in the Monument Grove area in front of the ballpark to answer questions and provide information and brochures about the program. The table will be located next to the Ty Cobb statue.

During the game, Braves players will wear special military appreciation jerseys in honor of our country’s service men and women. The red jersey features the "Braves" script in navy with white stars and includes an American flag patch on the left sleeve. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off online with proceeds going to BraveHeart: Welcome Back Veterans Southeast Initiative. To bid on the jerseys from June 13 to June 26, go to braves.com/charityauctions.
