Impact 10 years after Ebola: Looking back at a milestone in patient care at EmoryOn Aug. 21, 2014, the first Ebola patient treated in the United States was discharged from Emory University Hospital. American missionary Dr. Kent Brantly contracted the illness while treating patients in Liberia. Emory’s decision to care for Brantly and other patients with Ebola virus disease propelled the university into the international spotlight and began a journey of clinical treatment, research and education that continues to this day. Look back at the emotional press conference where Brantly thanked the Emory team for caring for him “with expertise, yet with tenderness and compassion.” |
