| | | | | Emory observes Juneteenth holiday | | Juneteenth marks the day — June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect — when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that enslaved people were now free and the war was over. Emory University will observe Juneteenth as a holiday June 20, with campus events planned for June 16-19, including a panel discussion of the 2018 documentary “The Power to Heal” (pictured above) on Thursday. | |
