RECOGNITION Emory Healthcare hospitals included in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2022 Four Emory Healthcare hospitals have been named top Georgia and U.S. hospitals and one has been named a top global hospital in Newsweek’s lists of the World’s Best Hospitals 2022. IMPACT Emory leads the way in women’s empowerment research Earlier this year, Women’s Studies International Forum ranked Emory as the No. 1 influential institution in women’s empowerment research. Learn how Rollins School of Public Health is impacting this research specialty as we celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. CONNECTIONS Lecture to examine the intersection of Judaism and climate change Hava Tirosh-Samuelson of Arizona State University will speak on “Judaism and Climate Change: Environmental Ethics and Social Activism” during the 2022 Tenenbaum Lecture on March 21. RESEARCH Emory virologists trace the start of COVID-19 in Georgia Scientists at Emory have compared the earliest SARS-CoV-2 genetic sequences detected in Georgia with virus sequences and samples from other states to learn where the first COVID-19 infections in Georgia originated. WELLNESS Step up and join Emory’s Move More Challenge It’s time again for Emory employees to join the Move More Challenge, a fun and friendly team competition of tracking steps. Registration is now open, with the six-week challenge kicking off March 14.

FEATURED EVENTS   Concert: "The Ways of Stars" with Atlanta Master Chorale "The Ways of Stars" is inspired by the life of scientist Maria Mitchell and by her description of a total solar eclipse that took place in 1869. The performance will feature a world premiere by the brilliant young composer Jake Runestad. A second performance will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 12. All ticket holders will have access to the livestream on March 12. When: March 11, 8:00 p.m. Where: Schwartz Center for Performing Arts (Emerson Concert Hall) and online Admission: $30; Emory students $10 Poetry Reading with Marilyn Chin Award-winning poet Marilyn Chin will share her wide-ranging work during a virtual reading in celebration of Women’s History Month. Poems by the self-described “activist poet” have been referred to as funny, fearless and feminist, and have earned Chin an array of prestigious literary honors. The event is part of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library Reading Series founded by Emory’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library. When: March 13, 3:00 p.m. Where: Online Admission: Free; registration required Constructive Collisions: AI.Humanity in Collaboration with Georgia Tech Open to researchers at Emory and Georgia Tech, this in-person networking event is designed to spur new research collaborations and expand existing partnerships to develop, leverage, apply and/or critically evaluate AI.
