CREATIVITY In-person musical and theater performances enliven campus in March As spring blooms on campus, March brings a full calendar of arts-related events to Emory, including Carlos Museum programs, student musical and theater performances, and a concert by contemporary chamber group Unheard-of//Ensemble. COMMITMENT Campus climate survey expands scope to include part-time faculty and staff Last fall, a climate survey was distributed to all students, full-time faculty and full-time staff to gauge how people experience diversity, equity and inclusion on campus. The survey is now open through March 16 for part-time faculty and staff. RESEARCH Data-driven study digs into the state of U.S. farm livelihoods A major new study led by Emory environmental scientists digs deeper into the question of why, despite the extraordinary productivity of U.S. agriculture, U.S. farm operators are systematically losing money. ANALYSIS Faith-based groups, public health more in sync on COVID-19 than some reports suggest Emory sociologists showed that faith groups amplified public health messages in the pandemic’s early days — which runs counter to the contentious media narrative at the time. RECOGNITION Emory Healthcare named one of America’s Best Large Employers by Forbes Emory Healthcare has been recognized as one of America’s Best Large Employers by Forbes magazine in 2022, ranking No. 55 out of 500 top large employers and No. 14 out of 48 organizations in the Healthcare and Social category.

COVID-19 UPDATE   Revised masking policy: Effective Monday, March 7, masks will be optional indoors on Emory University’s campuses. Masks will still be required in all classrooms and instructional spaces until Monday, March 21, at which time masks will become optional in these spaces. Masks also will still be required on all Emory shuttles and public transportation until further notice and will be required indefinitely in clinical, patient care and select research facilities on campus (including, but not limited to, Student Health Services). FEATURED EVENTS   First Fridays at 4P: "The Violence of Natural Law: Race, Indigeneity and Citizenship" with Malinda Maynor Lowery Malinda Maynor Lowery, a historian of identity and sovereignty in American Indian nations, will talk with Falguni Sheth, a political philosopher of race and gender, about the invention of natural law in the 17th and 18th centuries and how its ramifications are felt today. When: March 4, 4:00 p.m. Where: Online Admission: Free; registration required Poetry Reading with Marilyn Chin Award-winning poet Marilyn Chin will share her wide-ranging work during a virtual reading in celebration of Women’s History Month. Poems by the self-described “activist poet” have been referred to as funny, fearless and feminist, and have earned Chin an array of prestigious literary honors. The event is part of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library Reading Series founded by Emory’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library.
