MILESTONE
Emergency Use Authorization application submitted for COVID-19 antiviral discovered at Emory
Molnupiravir, an investigational oral antiviral drug discovered by Emory researchers, appears to significantly reduce the risk of hospitalization or death in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19, according to interim data from a Phase 3 study. The company developing the drug plans to submit an application for Emergency Use Authorization to the U.S. FDA.

'Tractor beam' to treat pediatric cancer earns NIH Transformative Research Award
Emory provost and biomedical scientist Ravi Bellamkonda has received the National Institutes of Health Director’s Transformative Research Award for his work using electrical fields to treat a particularly aggressive pediatric cancer.

 

NIH New Innovator Award recipient studying the use of artificial intelligence for paralysis
Emory researcher Chethan Pandarinath is using artificial intelligence to build brain-machine interfaces to assist people with paralysis, specifically those with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The NIH award will support a clinical trial launching this fall.

 

Researcher focused on imaging metabolism receives NIH New Innovator Award
The NIH has announced a New Innovator Award for Emory researcher Candace Fleischer, who plans to use magnetic resonance imaging in new ways to study metabolic disease.
