Acclaimed biomedical scientist, former Emory professor Ravi Bellamkonda named provost
Biomedical scientist Ravi Bellamkonda will return to Emory on July 1 as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. He previously held a joint appointment as a faculty member at Emory and Georgia Tech.

Emory faculty and staff are frequently recognized for their work locally, nationally and internationally. The following is a sampling of recent accolades, including national awards for leadership and excellence.

 

RESEARCH
NIH grant funds Emory work on indoor air sensor for SARS-CoV-2
Emory received a National Institutes of Health grant, for a total of $883,000 over two years, to develop a sensor capable of detecting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in the air of indoor spaces.

 

ACCOMPLISHMENT
Weissman awarded 2021 Sloan Research Fellowship
Emory College physicist Daniel Weissman, who specializes in building mathematical models to better understand the rapid evolution of pathogens, has been named a Sloan Research Fellow. The fellowship honors the most promising researchers working today.

 

HEALTH CARE
Rouphael appointed Hope Clinic executive director
Nadine Rouphael, professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease at Emory University School of Medicine, has been named executive director of the Hope Clinic, the clinical research arm of the Emory Vaccine Center.
