The Emory Police Department is implementing changes to increase engagement with community members, provide easier access to more comprehensive data, update use-of-force policies and augment mandatory training to provide a more just and equitable policing approach.

ENVIRONMENT
New lead screening method zooms in on highest-risk areas in Georgia
Emory researchers have developed a more precise screening index of areas where children are most at risk for low-level lead exposure in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. The work was led by Samantha Distler while she was an undergraduate majoring in quantitative sciences on the neuroscience and behavioral biology track.

RESEARCH
Emory begins advanced stage clinical trial for another COVID-19 vaccine
Emory University will enroll adult volunteers in a large-scale clinical trial designed to evaluate whether a single dose of an investigational vaccine can prevent symptomatic COVID-19.

 

HEALTH CARE
ESJH receives highest designation for emergency cardiac care
The Georgia Department of Public Health has designated Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital as a Level I Emergency Cardiac Care Center, Georgia’s highest level of emergency cardiac care.

 

ATHLETICS
Baseball alum helps win World Series with Los Angeles Dodgers
Connor McGuiness, who played baseball at Emory from 2009-12 and served as the Eagles' pitching coach during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, capped off a memorable first year as assistant pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers with a World Series championship.

The Department of Title IX (DTIX) will host a one-hour workshop on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 12 p.m. titled “Mandatory Reporting for Improving Campus Culture and Safety.” The workshop will focus on our mandatory reporters’ obligation to promptly channel reports of prohibited conduct under Emory’s Sex and Gender-Based Harassment and Discrimination Policy 8.2 to DTIX. During the workshop, DTIX will introduce the 5Ws of mandatory reporting. All faculty, staff, teaching assistants and resident advisors are mandatory reporters. Register for the workshop or contact DTIX (titleix@emory.edu) for further information.
