Emory helps establish national standard of care for COVID-19 treatment
Final results of an international study on adults hospitalized with COVID-19 show that treatment with the experimental antiviral drug remdesivir resulted in faster recovery, fewer days on oxygen and lower progression to ventilation compared with placebo.

National Academy of Medicine elects two Emory leaders to 2020 class
The National Academy of Medicine has elected Denise J. Jamieson and Susan Margulies to its prestigious 2020 class, considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine.

New hip-hop class reinforces the power of community through dance
Alumnus Julio Medina returned to campus last year as faculty with the Emory Dance Program. He’s already breaking new ground for the university, teaching Emory’s first course in hip-hop dance.

 

FUNDING
NIH funds study of COVID-19 immune responses in patients with cancer
The National Cancer Institute has awarded a five-year, $9.9 million grant to Emory investigators to study COVID-19 immune responses in patients with cancer or autoimmune diseases.

 

RECOGNITION
Nominations being accepted for honorary degree consideration
Staff, faculty and students are invited to nominate an individual to receive an honorary Emory degree. Nominees have achieved the highest distinction in their fields while also demonstrating a transformational influence; their lives and careers exemplify a commitment to values shared by Emory. Nominations are due by Nov. 2.
