CLASS OF 2020: Emory College
Delving into questions points Emory College grad to in-depth policy work

CLASS OF 2020: OXFORD COLLEGE
First-generation student makes the most of his time at Oxford College
At Oxford, Jordan Hasty embraced the community that reminded him of home yet offered opportunities to grow in new directions with kindred spirits, including apprenticing at the organic farm and supporting other students from first-gen or low-income families.

CLASS OF 2020: NURSING
Graduation will take student back to where she first loved nursing
Volunteer work at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta led Alexis Perkins to develop a love for nursing while in high school. She’s coming full circle as she prepares to join the CHOA staff with a BSN from Emory.

CLASS OF 2020: BUSINESS
Building relationships key to future success for Goizueta student
Lauded as both a serious scholar and the leader of the largest extracurricular club at Goizueta Business School, BBA graduate Michael Battat seeks to prove “the nice guy does not always finish last.”

CLASS OF 2020: LANEY GRADUATE SCHOOL
Even serious injury couldn’t stop immunologist’s path to PhD
Laney Graduate School student Morgan Barham had almost completed her research when an accident left her unable to even hold a pipette. But she persevered, finishing her PhD and mentoring underrepresented students in STEM.

CLASS OF 2020: PUBLIC HEALTH
Public health graduate puts knowledge to use during COVID-19 pandemic
Cassie Kersten’s many roles during her time at Rollins led to work at the CDC and active involvement in state and federal responses related to COVID-19. Now she’ll use that experience on projects merging emergency management and public health.

CLASS OF 2020: THEOLOGY
At Candler, theology graduate student dances outside his comfort zone
Leading liturgical dance and preaching in a Sri Lankan church are just two ways Keith Asberry II deepened his calling as he completed a master of theological studies degree and certificates in religious education and Black Church Studies.

CLASS OF 2020: MEDICINE
Woodruff Scholar sets sight on future as physician-policymaker
Emory was a perfect fit for MD candidate Akshaya Kannan, thanks to the university’s affiliation with Grady Memorial Hospital. With a passion for working alongside communities, she’s one step closer to her dream of becoming a physician-policymaker.

CLASS OF 2020: LAW
With Emory law degree, Air Force captain to join JAG Corps
Air Force Capt. Federick Johnson served in Europe and the Middle East before coming to Emory Law as a Woodruff Fellow. His law degree will likely take him around the world again – with a whole new point of view.

CLASS OF 2020: HONORS
From social justice to storytelling, class orator speaks out for others
Emory College class orator Adama Kamara is a first generation American who has seen how facing fears can help build legacies — for herself and others. After graduation she will combine those lessons with storytelling traditions to speak on behalf of marginalized groups.
