INSPIRATION New space for students expands Emory’s innovation ecosystem The Hatchery, Emory's new student innovation center, opens its doors in mid-February, joining the university's thriving environment of creativity and discovery. RECOGNITION Emory’s Sterk, Lewin among '100 most influential Georgians' Emory University President Claire E. Sterk and Jon Lewin, president, CEO and chair of Emory Healthcare, have been named among the "100 Most Influential Georgians" for the second consecutive year by Georgia Trend magazine. LITERATURE Celebrated poet Nikki Giovanni to give free reading at Emory Celebrated activist poet Nikki Giovanni will read her work on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. at Emory University's Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. RESEARCH How personality predicts seeing others as sex objects Several personality traits related to psychopathy — especially being openly antagonistic — predict a tendency to view others as merely sex objects, finds a study by psychologists at Emory. CONNECTIONS Super Bowl kicker has deep ties to Emory Harrison Butker, a record-setting field goal kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, has strong family ties to Emory's Winship Cancer Institute and will play in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 in Miami. CREATIVITY Theater Emory introduces original new plays with Brave New Works Festival Celebrate the creativity of playwriting and enjoy new works from professional playwrights, Emory students and others during the biennial Brave New Works Festival, encompassing three weekends beginning Jan. 31.
