SPECIAL FEATURE Sara's journey Emory medical student Justine Broecker was volunteering in Haiti when she met an infant, Sara, with a rare birth defect. With Broecker's help and determination, Sara would come to Atlanta for the complicated surgery she needed. LEADERSHIP Emory names Newton senior vice president of advancement and alumni engagement Emory University President Claire E. Sterk has announced the appointment of Joshua R. Newton as senior vice president for advancement and alumni engagement. He will assume the post on Aug. 27, 2018. COMMUNITY Kaiser Permanente and Emory Healthcare announce new collaboration for integrated care Emory Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente will collaborate to develop a new care model that provides Kaiser Permanente members with a fully integrated health care experience and in the process advances patient- and family-centered care in metro Atlanta and beyond. ACHIEVEMENT Recent Emory College graduate receives national leadership award Sara Frank, who majored in media studies at Emory, has been recognized by honor society Omicron Delta Kappa as National Leader of the Year. PUBLIC HEALTH Rollins researchers receive $3.7M to study World Bank's urban water supply improvement project in Mozambique Researchers at the Rollins School of Public Health have received a $3.7 million R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the impact of a five-year, $140 million World Bank-funded water improvement project in Mozambique. RESEARCH Solving a museum mystery Learn how corpse-eating flies and splotchy mineral deposits helped answer longstanding questions about the authenticity of pre-Hispanic artifacts in Emory's Michael C. Carlos Museum.
