Coursera's online courses give people around the globe the chance to learn from Emory faculty about topics that highlight the university's commitment to helping humanity. Subjects include civil rights, understanding violence, examining addiction, responding to health emergencies, and more.

According to a newly released ranking from Forbes, Emory University has been ranked No. 39 out of 500 of America's Best Employers.

Physics of a glacial 'slushy' reveal granular forces on a massive scale
Emory physicist Justin Burton and a team of researchers show that the laws for how granular materials flow apply even at the giant, geophysical scale of icebergs piling up in the ocean at the outlet of a glacier.

Their hearts are in Havana: Oxford students take a revolutionary trip to Cuba
Students in the Spanish class "Evolution of Revolution" recently visited Cuba to learn about the country's history and culture directly from its citizens.

 

RESEARCH
Spoonful of sugar helps infection detection
To detect cardiac and orthopedic device infections early, Emory researchers have been exploiting the chemical properties of a sugar that is taken up by bacteria, but not mammalian cells.

 

ENVIRONMENT
Rollins researchers receive IBM grant to study impact of climate change on health
Researchers at Rollins School of Public Health have received one of IBM's Climate Change and Environmental grants, which provide technology resources to assist research on climate change and environmental issues.

 

SPORTS
Emory to add women's golf as intercollegiate sport
Emory will add women's golf to its list of varsity sports, beginning in the fall of 2019. The new team will bring the university's total to 19 athletic programs that compete at the NCAA Division III level.
